O*NET occupational data
When a job title doesn't match one of our curated role families, FirstRound may still name the occupation it belongs to. That naming uses the O*NET 30.3 Database by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration (USDOL/ETA), used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). How we modified the data
We do not ship the database as published. From release 30.3 we keep two of its files plus the occupation names, normalize every job-title string the same way our own title matcher normalizes yours (lowercasing, seniority and employer stripping, plural and alias folding), and drop any normalized title that maps to more than one occupation, so the product never guesses between occupations. The result is 38,614 normalized title entries across 1,016 occupations, with 7,422 ambiguous entries deliberately excluded.
What it is used for
Naming the occupation only. Our keyword checklists remain hand-curated; where only an O*NET occupation name is available, the report says plainly that no curated checklist exists for it yet. The six screener scores never read this data at all: they read your file, not your role.
